This is the most popular time of year to paint the exterior of your house. For me, doing exterior colours is really exciting, it gives the house such an enormous life and starts a conversation. Never a cheap exercise but certainly a worth while one!
We are moving away from mochas and lots of brown. The most common colours are still strong, clean, simple neutrals, lots of subtle grey, white and black coming through with some contrast on certain substrates on the house. Maybe copper spouting, facia board and finished off with a colour on the front door which gives it your personal identity.
Black boundary stained fences are big as they offset the lush green gardens and the contrast it creates is just fabulous. However there is maintenance involved with black as we all know, but as i say it’s SO worth it!
Both contemporary new builds and old villas love getting a makeover, it really brings the house to life and people are getting brave with trying new colours.
I find with every project it varies, depending on the clients brief, surrounding houses, the substrates we are applying the paint/colour to. The setting - is it in a bush, surrounded by lush trees, lifestyle blog or semi detached housing, many houses are very close to others so it is even more important to consider your neighbours and surrounding colour palettes on these houses.
Bricks are having a huge comeback and it’s getting exciting for many people building new homes, with some great colours and various sizes making for better choices for the wider market. Again black is making a huge presence even with stains. There is a large black matt brick out I am in love with and I cannot wait to spec it this month on a new build.
The bonus with bricks is… Once they are installed that is it, no maintenance required. Every year many new products are being introduce to the market and every year they get more exciting, for example I am currently specifying a textured stone thin brick as apposed to shift on an accent vertical wall of a house to give it some texture and street appeal. I will post the image as soon as it is installed.
